4 week old baby boy

This little guy was a little older than my typical newborn because he spent his first month in the NICU due to some tummy issues. He still had a few belly aches on the day of our session, but he really did so great, and I love how his images turned out. He really is one of the most gorgeous babies I've ever worked with...perfect little features!! Could have just loved on him all day!

This little guy is 3 months, but is more the size of a 6 month old!! He is so cute...and although he really didn't feel like giving up many smiles for us, we still managed to get some super adorable pictures. Can't wait to see him again in 3 more months :)

This little man gave me a run for my money. We first scheduled our session for day 8, but poor little man had a tummy ache & me & mommy were just unable to settle him down for his pictures. So we gave in & rescheduled for a week later, which I was a little nervous about because that would put him over the magical 2 week time frame. But he shocked us & was sooo great! He took a few minutes to go out, but once he was out man was he OUT! Slept like a champ & let me get all of my poses. Even cooperated for a sibling shot with his 2 adorable big brothers! I'm just in love with that head full of hair & long lashes!! Can't wait to photograph this little one throughout his first year. Here are a few of my faves from his newborn session...

All new for 2012, I'll be offering digital sessions. What this means for you the client is you will pay one lump sum, then instead of having a gallery to choose from on my website, you will have a gallery uploaded to www.mpix.com and all ordering can be done from their site. Mpix is the sister company of my professional printing lab, and the quality & prices are fantastic. This option will allow clients to order at their own leisure instead of in my 2 wk limit and let them own all of their images, and ordering from mpix lets me know that my clients are still getting fantastic quality products. DVD archives can be ordered from mpix for those that want that as a keepsake. Pricing information below. I will still be offering regular priced sessions with ordering as usual for those who don't want the digital option.

Busy busy around here, so I'm just gonna post one big post with lots of pics :) First up sweet baby T who modeled some hats I needed pics of...so super cute & probably the best baby I've had in a while...slept right through everything & didn't poo or pee on a thing!!

Next up the sweet kiddos of one of the docs at my office...I've taken pics of them several times, but I think these are my faves. Lots of cute sibling moments...reminds me of me & my bro when we were little :)

At last but not least a sweet brother/sister + their significant others who wanted some pics for Christmas gifts. And I'm not going to say I'm good luck, BUT two big fantastic things happened in this family right after these pics, so maybe I am :)

Fall Mini Sessions

I had such a blast photographing all of these sweet families! Their kids are such a delight, and all were super photogenic :) First up Miss Ellery, who is getting so big! She is such a serious little one, but she did manage to throw me a bone & give me a few smiles :)

Next up sweet Miss Avaleigh who had so many better things to do than sit & pose for my camera! Such a busy body, but man oh man I love those big blue eyes!!

Next up was the Huffman clan...two very energetic but equally adorable boys. This was my 2nd time to photograph them, and I believe they are even cuter this year :)

And next sweet little Oliver, who really was not a fan of doing anything besides playing with his ball! You never would know it though because we still managed to get some super cute pics of him :)

And last but not least is what I will call "the circus" :) I know we looked ridiculous with all of our antics to try to get 3 babies looking & smiling at us, but hey you do what you have to do! Little Stewart did let it be known what he thought of me putting a camera in his face though...you'll know what I mean when you scroll down a bit :) I still just can't get over how much the triplets & big brother have grown!!

Newborn Session Changes

Since I've been in business, I have been doing "at-home" sessions for newborns. While I realize that it is a lot easier to have me come to your home, this does pose many challenges, the main being lighting. Being a natural light photographer, lighting is a HUGE component in my photography. I can't tell you how many times I've gone into a client's home & found the lighting less than ideal, or found great light, but huge unmovable furniture in the way. Trust me, this MAJORLY affects the outcome of images!! Traveling also limits the number of props I can bring, and adds about 1.5 hrs in time to account for loading/unloading/setting up. At this point in time, a studio is just not an option for me. I still work a full time job apart from photography, and when my husband & I (FINALLY) sell our home we are in now & move to the Birmingham area, we are planning on having an in-home studio space for me, so there's no point in me finding a separate studio space only to move it again at a later date.

For these reasons, I have decided to start having my newborn sessions in my home. I have a large guest room with a ton of natural light that will work perfect for my sessions. It will also allow for more smooth-flowing sessions, as I will have everything already set up and ready to go when the client gets here. I am about an hour and a half from the majority of my clients in the Birmingham area, so to all of my clients from Birmingham/surrounding areas I will be offering a $40 print credit for you making the journey to me, so this will more than cover your gas money :) For those of you who still wish to have an at-home newborn session, the fee will now be $125. Thanks so much for understanding!!

I absolutely loved getting to catch up with this sweet couple. I graduated high school with them, and they are honestly two of the sweetest people you'll ever meet. Some of my fondest memories from high school involve these two. Everyone always knew they would get married, and here they are...and look just as in love as ever, with one sweet little boy, and one mystery baby on the way!! We battled some of the worst mosquitoes ever for these...I seriously had over 20 bites when we were done :( but these pictures are priceless and I'm so glad we stuck with it. I am honored to have documented this sweet time in their lives as a family of 3.5 :) I hope to see you guys again soon!! I promise to never drag you into mosquito-infested areas EVER again!!!!

He did a fantastic job for his first photo session...he didn't care too much for being moved a whole lot & he definitely loves his binky!! But I figured out really quickly that if I just put in his pacifier before I posed him, then let him get settled he would just pass right back out :)

I love these two families...I used to work with both of the moms at my first "real job" in Florence. They are xray techs & as most of you know I am an ultrasound tech...we had some fun times in ECM Hospital radiology! I sure miss them & can't believe how big their kiddos have gotten! We met up after I photographed my friend Erica's little one & I did holiday mini sessions for them for Christmas cards.

This was a very impromptu session...like Chloe & her sweet mom Mandy stopped by & 5 minutes later I suggested we take some pictures of her! I mean, she was looking so cute I couldn't help myself! And the sky was beautiful & I had spotted a cool field down at the end of the road. It just all worked out so well! So I grabbed a chair & some pearls & off we headed. I'm not going to lie...I was super nervous about this shoot. As most photographers know, it's best to photograph newborns in the first two weeks of life, preferably day 5-10. Well, this little guy was going to be 4 weeks at our scheduled shoot. At this stage, babies tend to be more alert & squirmy, don't fold up as well, and newborn acne & colic (if they're going to have it) have set in. BUT this little guy was absolutely perfect! All that worrying for nothing ;) He did have several more awake periods than my typical newborn & he wasn't quite as bendy as I'm used to, but he did so great & let me get my favorite poses. It just took a little extra coaxing, but it was totally and completely worth it!! :) Thanks so much to his mom & dad for allowing me to photograph him! You'll be seeing a lot of him because he's one of my baby planners so I'll be seeing him again @ 6, 9, & 12 months!

In honor of her last first week of school, I'm adding Kelsey's blog post. She was such a trooper for this shoot, because she had just twisted her ankle two days before! And I'm talking swelling, bruises, & crutches twisted that ankle! I have always love redheads. I don't know what it is about them...I guess because it's not the same old brown or blonde like most of us have...I have always liked "different" things, so maybe that's what the attraction is. I love red hair so much that almost every time I have my hair colored (which is pretty regularly since I'm prematurely graying :), I always pick a color with either a hint (or sometimes a lot) of red. I haven't seen J.D. since he was a teeny newborn...I love seeing those little babies grown into babbling toddlers. I loved this session, especially the "smash cake" pictures. He was such a boy...not interested in eating at all, just in making the biggest mess possible. And when it was all said & done, he just plopped down and sat right on top of his cake :) Too cute!

For our anniversary trip this year Jon & I decided to go to the Turks and Caicos. Definitely the most beautiful place I've ever been. It was very laid back & relaxed...we definitely were super lazy on this trip. We were worthless...mostly our days consisted of either lounging by the ocean or the pool, but we did take a couple of days to rent a car & explore the main island....I had my first experience with driving on the left side of the road w/ a right-hand drive car! About a year and a half ago I started out on this photography venture. God has blessed me so much along the way. I'm so happy with where my business is at right now, and can only pray that it continues to grow. I have learned so much and met so many wonderful people. As most of you also know, I work a full time job during the week. I am an ultrasound tech for a very busy OB/GYN group in Birmingham. I love my job so much, and don't plan on leaving anytime soon...in fact, this office is how I meet so many of my clients! So you can only imagine that between working 35-40 hours at my regular job, and taking on photography sessions on the weekends, I am stretched thin. My husband & I already have a "long-distance" marriage, since I work in Birmingham and live 1.5 hrs away in Crossville...long story but hopefully we will be in the Birmingham area soon...and when we do get to Birmingham there should be a home studio in the works! Who knows how long that will be though...so that will be announced when it becomes a reality!

So here's the part where the changes are announced...as time has passed, I have learned that newborns and children are really where my heart is at. I knew when I started that this is probably where I would end up, but the last year has just reaffirmed that for me. So from here on out, I will only be taking on maternity, newborn, children, and families. I feel like this is where my photography skills shine, and where I want to focus all of my time on, so I can continue to grow into my full potential in these areas. I am also not working Fridays at the office anymore starting in May. This will leave Fridays wide open, and I encourage everyone to please book sessions on Fridays if that works with your schedules. I'm going to be limiting the amount of sessions I take on each month to ensure that I'm leaving enough time for my personal life. Which means please book at least 1-2 months in advance! My schedule is already booked through mid May right now, and I'm sure will only continue to get busier throughout these coming spring & summer months. There will also be some pricing changes...any of my clients that are on the books (and that includes if you've already contacted me about a newborn session & we're working around baby's arrival) will be on the old pricing schedule...all other bookings from here on out will be on the new prices. Don't worry, it's not any big changes but as my costs increase, my prices must also reflect that. Session fees will stay the same, it's just prints & products that will be adjusted. Also, most everyone that contacts me asks if I sell digital files. And the answer was no. I still have mixed emotions about giving people discs with their images...we live in a day where everyone wants those images for their computers & to print freely whenever they want, but when starting my business I didn't feel like that was the right move for me...I wanted all of my clients to have the highest quality images and products possible...and taking a disc of my images that I worked very hard on to CVS for prints was not the way I wanted to go. Those images are basically also my advertising...if a friend or family member sees a beautiful image they will be interested...if they see a poor quality image they will not be so interested in booking me...see where I'm coming from? But I want my customers to be happy, so I've come up with a compromise! I will be offering discs with your images now, but only with a minimum print order. This will ensure that you still have beautiful, high-quality prints and products from a reputable printer, and also can have your digital images to have on your computer and to be able to print gift size prints from at a later date if you wish. Also, in the coming months I will be doing away with the online ordering gallery. I will be changing over to in-person ordering consultations, which means we will schedule an appointment to meet and look at your images together...a lot of people are overwhelmed with the ordering process, so it will help to have me there to guide you through...and you will be able to actually see examples of products and prints to know more about what you want. However, this will probably not take effect until we are moved in the Birmingham area, so more updates on that as it happens.

I've been anxiously awaiting these little peanuts arrival for a while now! And they made me wait...and wait...and wait! They baked nice & long and were born at almost 36 weeks! (almost unheard of for those of you who don't know!) Two boys and a girl to join their big brother Thomas...they are absolutely adorable!

Little Bo is such a cutie, but let me tell you he did not want anything to do with sleeping for his pictures! It took us a lot of swaddling, feeding, and comforting to get him to drift off, but he finally gave in & gave us some great pics! She chose to use her session for some family pictures, so we met up this weekend @ the Guntersville State Park to try to take advantage of the fall leaves. Meet sweet baby Gunnar...I photographed him entering the world and then was priviledged enough to do his newborn photos as well. He is such a cutie & he did so great for his pictures (he slept so well because apparently he stayed up & partied all the night before :)

Wow...where do I start? I was completely honored when Laura asked me to photograph the birth of her first child. This would not only be my first birth photography experience, but my first birth experience period. I see babies in utero every day, but have never experienced watching them enter this world. It was the most magical, emotional, wonderful, magnificent experience ever. There are not even words to describe it. It was beautiful. Laura is beautiful. Her new baby boy is beautiful. And I will never forget the day, and now Laura won't forget one part of it because of the wonderful memories & emotions preserved in these images.

Labor Day weekend

Jon and I went over to the Savannah/Tybee Island area for the long weekend. We ran constantly, but had such a good time. We spent most of our time in downtown Savannah but of course made some time for the beach @ Tybee. And on Saturday we made the trip down to Cumberland Island, which was such a neat place. Even saw a few wild horses while we were on the island.

Oh, what to say about Miss Ellery. I saw her many, many times in her mommy's belly. I work with her mom so we did plenty of ultrasounds on her...so this is technically not my first time to photograph her! She never wanted to cooperate much for photos while in mommy's belly but she was a dream to photograph out of the womb!! I'm pretty sure the second picture here where she's flipping me off is payback for all of the times I poked on her to try to get her to move in her ultrasounds :) Thanks Patti for letting me do her pictures...she's just beyond perfect!!

Little Addison is the smallest baby I've ever photographed. She was born @ right around 4 1/2 lbs and was about 5 lbs on the day of our session. But don't let her size fool you...she is a fiesty little thing!! :) And seriously, how gorgeous is she??? And has a beautiful name to match! I'm sure you remember this little guy from a few months ago. Back for round 2. I had to break out the old washtub again...not only does it make super cute pics, but it's also 110 degrees down here in the south, so it's pretty much a must have for outdoor photos! When I was going to church one night I happened to notice this little grassy patch with the most beautiful light @ sunset behind the parking lot. I knew I just HAD to take pictures there. And Rylee was way overdue for some pictures!! AND I've been DYING to try out my bubblebath in the washtub idea...so it all worked out perfectly...EXCEPT Miss Rylee was in no mood to have her picture taken yesterday :( Until it came to bubble time...then she was as happy as can be :)

These were the coolest jellyfish ever...I wouldn't think so if I saw them in the ocean instead of on the other side of the thick glass...but still...

Meet John David. This cute little guy's mommy & I went to high school together...gotta love Facebook :) He was 11 days old on the day of this shoot...and man he did NOT want to sleep or pose for pictures. But after 3 hours of working with him, I think we managed to get some pretty cute shots!

We are having a blast down here in Destin. We made it before the oil!! And apparently just in time...they are saying it is coming to the panhandle in just a few days. We are staying in a beach house with our dog, Jon's parents, aunt and uncle, and his cousin & her husband & little boy. Jon's sister & bro-in-law & their 3 boys are also down here, so it's been a blast with the whole fam!! Here are a few pics of our trip so far...check out my hubby rocking his "Jason Mraz look" as I like to call it :)

When Jessica asked me to photograph her wedding, I was a little hesitant. I'm still learning a lot, and I'd never shot a wedding before. I usually don't get too nervous with a photography shoot...I mean the worst thing that could happen is you don't get the shots you wanted...well just reschedule. You can't exactly reschedule a wedding. You get what you get. So, I was extremely nervous!! Jessica is one of my dearest friends, and I wanted to get everything exactly right. The weather was beautiful, she looked gorgeous...couldn't have been better. I enjoyed the experience, but have to say...this was probably my first and last wedding! Too stressful for me :)
